Karsey Street Park

Come, Sit, Relax!

Tucked into a quiet corner of Highland Park, stretching between Karsey Street and Hilton Street, is a little gem perhaps not visited by most residents in town. Molimock-Graff Park (known to regulars simply as "Karsey Street Park") features an accessible playground, picnic tables, and a striking memorial to two fallen firefighters, Frank Molimock, Jr. and William Graff.

This park is the location of the Highland Park Guerilla Art Club's latest community art installation. The HP Guerilla Art Club is a branch of the Highland Park Arts Commission. As a club comprised of Highland Park children who strive to use grand-scale art to bring messages of issues of importance to the youth of the community (past projects have included statements on positivity, Pride, and the environment), the club agreed "connections" was the next message they wanted to focus on. Their project was undertaken with the desire to help neighbors across town connect with each other.

Members brainstormed ways they could get neighbors together using art when the idea popped out -- bringing people physically together with artful chairs! And so, after assembling and priming four wooden Adirondack chairs, the young artists set to decorate them with inviting artistry. The finished art has now been installed in the park and the invitation is open to the community to: Come! Sit! Relax! And share stories with your neighbors. Use the chairs to make connections with friends, old and new.
