The Bartle Mural

The mural on Bartle Elementary School, titled "Only One", is a project spearheaded by the Guerilla Arts Club, conceptualized and organized by Nikki Gonzalez and headed by artist Sonya Elefante, a member of the Highland Park Arts Commission. We wanted our mural to be educational, as it’s the mission of the GAC to bring issues that are important to our young artists out into the community. Climate change and animal welfare are big on their list of concerns, so our educational mural incorporated various marine life - including Bartle School's mascot, the dolphin!- that are endangered and/or threatened by pollution, overfishing, and climate change.

We created write-ups about each plant and animal, and linked them to QR codes on the wall. Now, anyone who passes by the mural can not only view the art, but interact with it and learn.
