Free Little Art Gallrey

Free Little Art Gallery (or FLAG for short) is a community project that fosters the creation, viewing, and sharing of art in a way that is accessible to all. There are hundreds of independently run FLAGs all over the world! Many function in the same way as a Free Little Library (but for art!) where people are encouraged to create and contribute art and/or to to take art made by others, though some are different.

The “Exhibit Edition” FLAG (located at 20 River Road) is set up as a mini gallery for viewing only. Art is not intended to be contributed or taken at this location. We ask that you not try to open it, as we want everyone to be able to enjoy. See below for more information on our current exhibit and artist(s). Exhibits will rotate every few months, so keep an eye out for the next one! We will be showcasing local artists of all ages, sometimes as solo exhibits and other times in group shows. We will periodically post calls for art, so be sure to follow us on social media to stay up to date on the latest and greatest.

Local artist and HPAC member Sonya Elefante thoughtfully designed and crafted the FLAG at 20 River Road, and is featured in the first (tiny) exhibit. You can check out her work on instagram: @son.yart.

Now we know what you’re thinking… the FLAG is awesome, and you wish there was somewhere YOU could take and leave art. Well it’s your lucky day, we have 2 more FLAGs in the works!

ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT FIRST EXHIBIT AND GALLERY OPENING DATE COMING SOON!

Free Little Art Galleries in the works

Highland Park Arts Commission is a proud recipient of the 2025 Park Partners Grant thanks to you! Our proposal to install and maintain 2 additional FLAGs in town awarded us the Arts category grant. The new FLAGs will function in the traditional way and encourage you to create art, leave art, and take art! We are planning to install these in late Fall 2025 and hope to have them up and running by December. We encourage people and groups to create and share their art, and will also host art-making events where we provide supplies and space for you to come and create your own (tiny) masterpieces for our FLAGs.

You can find more information about the movement at freelittleartgalleries.art, or check out a list of registered FLAG locations at findafreelittleartgallery.com.
