ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Learn the basics of bookmaking by creating one structure called “The Twirling Palm Puppet Book” from start to finish in a two hour workshop with artist, Amee J. Pollack. Learn how to bind a book cover, and think about how image, text, structure work together to convey meaning and or tell a story. The workshop is limited to 20 participants or parent/child pairs. The workshop is for adults and for children 6 years and up. Materials will be provided for one book and one puppet per participant/pair. Sponsored by the Highland Park Arts Commission and the Highland Park Public Library.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Amee J. Pollack is a book artist and collagist who earned her MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 1994 and a fellowship from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Her artists’ books and prints, published under “Spitz and Pollack”, are in over 50 permanent special collections such as the Brooklyn Museum, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum (Smithsonian), New York Public Library Print Collection, The Getty, and Yale University. Currently she advises Visual Arts students at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
